Bariatric surgery also known as weight-loss surgery, is an operation that helps you lose weight by making changes to your digestive system.
Insurance for weight loss surgery is not offered by the insurers,
But In recent cases, health insurance for bariatric surgery was offered by Star Health Insurance, Bajaj Allianz, United India Assurance and Apollo Munich .Only recently it has been included in the policies, to avail the benefit kindly contact your insurance agent about further details.
BMI is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of their height in metres.
If your BMI ≥ 37 with no co-morbidities
or
If your BMI ≥ 32 and at least one or more obesity-related co-morbidities such as type II diabetes (T2DM), hypertension, sleep apnea and other respiratory disorders, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, lipid abnormalities, gastrointestinal disorders, or heart disease.

if your BMI ≥ 30 with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus
Along with long term weight loss, comorbidities such as Diabetes mellitus, Dyslipidemia, PCOD , Hypertension, Sleep apnoea etc. may get fully reversed or may need reduced drug dosage. Results may vary from patient to patient.
